⁴⁸ If we tolerate Him in this manner, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place^[a] and nation”. ⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being the high priest of that year, said to them, “You do not know anything— ⁵⁰ nor do you consider that it is better for you that one Man die for the people, and the whole nation not perish”.
